Tchaikovsky's Brilliance!!! As generals and commanders are praised for their ability to coordinate attacks and predict the opposition's moves, composers and conductors should be praised the same... I don't understand how one man can hold so much music inside him... so much ORIGINAL music! His first symphony is as emotionally gripping as his last (which is not to say he has not grown but it is to say that he has consistently been impressive). I suppose you have to be good to be remembered, but Tchaikovsky went totally overkill... So gorgeous... He matters in a large scope, too... His music isn't exclusive to snobs like myself. Swan Lake, Beauty and the Beast, Romeo and Juliet, the Nutcracker... all glimmering works which are a mainstay in culture seen in the media we consume... He really knew how to play with timbres. Call and response between the brass and the winds... It's also very percussive (which brings to mind contemporary music, which is percussion heavy. His music is so graceful, yet it weighs heavy... It strangles you with soft hands... he shitposts, yet other composers' serious works are not half as good... Created 11 June 2025 Last updated 11 June 2025
